How to Make HOPE ROCKS!

This is one of my all time FAVORITE crafts because it serves such a larger purpose than painting rocks. Hope Rocks are all about spreading positivity and hope within your community (which is something I think we could all use a little more of, even at the best of times).

After you paint your rocks, you can take them to your local park or even just go on a walk around the neighborhood to "deliver" your rocks! I like to make a "take a rock, leave a rock" rock so that neighbors know that they can contribute to this effort of hope, too! I explain this more in the video below! The designs are endless and there are an innumerable amount of ideas, pictures, and inspiration on Pinterest.

I also LOVE this craft because it is engaging and fun for a variety of ages. Your preschooler or your middle schooler could take their design ideas and run with them! BONUS: it creates some quality family time as you go to deliver your rocks at your local park or around the neighborhood!

This video is meant for you and your kiddo to watch together. Enjoy!

Don't forget to give videos you enjoy a thumbs up & subscribe!

You will need...

  • Acrylic paint - Be sure to use acrylic paint for this project! Washable paint will wash away with the rain!

  • Paint brushes - Preferably of different sizes and widths for all the different designs you come up with!

  • A sponge brush - You will use this to coat your rocks in the Mod Podge.

  • Mod Podge - There are many different kinds. Even outdoor Mod Podge. I just used the original gloss Mod Podge.

  • Rocks! - You can either go on a walk or a hike to find great rocks with a smooth, flat surface. You could also purchase rocks from places like Michaels, Joann Fabrics, or Amazon.

How to make it:

  1. Paint your rocks with your own unique and beautiful design! There are plenty of Hope Rock Pinterest ideas out there.

  2. Add a second, third, or even fourth coat of paint to your rock! It all depends on how you want it to look. (More coats = the brighter the paint will show up on the rocks.)

  3. Wait 2-3 hours or until you are certain the last coat of paint is completely dry.

  4. Add 2-3 layers of Mod Podge (waiting about 30 minutes between coats).

  5. Deliver your rocks around your neighborhood, front sidewalk, or your local park!

Tips, Notes, & Extensions

If you decide to coat your rock in a lighter color, it will take SEVERAL coats to make it as bright as the paint bottle! I learned that lesson when I was painting my ladybug rock!

I hope you decide to take part in this HOPE ROCKS craft!

You can post your kiddo's beautiful creations in the comments below.

Thank you for offering up a lil' extra hope in the world with your beautiful designs!

I can't wait to see what you come up with!

Keep it crafty,

Miss Kelsey
